Find a Speech and Language Therapist
We offer a speech and language therapy assessment with Dana Murphy-Francis who is both a qualified speech and language therapist and a specialist in Dyslexia.
Most therapy requires a period of screening and assessment to inform the SLT of how best to meet a child’s needs. Speech and language therapy is charged at £80 per hour (see our fees page for more information). Sometimes a full assessment and report is required and this is charged at £495. Assessments can take place in Shoreham-by-Sea, and in some cases remotely.
How do we assess speech and language?
Speech and language therapists use both restricted standardised tests and more informal measures such as play to indicate any likely diagnoses, along with outlining a child’s strengths and any areas that they are having difficulty in. Thorough assessment ensures that the best targeted therapy can be given, and provides information to parents who are concerned about possible underachievement, or who think that specific learning difficulties such as Developmental Language Disorder may be affecting academic performance.
Therapy for speech and language
We will select and deliver therapy which is tailored to the specific needs of your child, generally after they have undergone some assessment. Many different techniques can be used to support speech and language development, both using structured therapy tasks and through play. Some children may just need a single session, and others will have ongoing support.
Therapy can be delivered in your home, at your child’s school or childcare setting, at our Dyslexia centre and in some cases via video call. We are also able to devise a therapy plan and provide training e.g. to a parent, in how to deliver the therapy. This is similar to the model employed by schools, where often the speech and language therapist will assess and create a therapy plan, and then train a teaching assistant to deliver the therapy.
